Description
Suitable for beekeepers with 20–100 colonies. Inner basket 33 x 53 x 49 cm – suitable for approx. 21–23 frames (depending on frame size).
The electric steam wax melter from Logar is designed for melting old combs. Melting wax with steam is fast, simple and effective.
CAPACITY: approx. 21–23 frames (the exact number depends on the frame dimensions).
DURATION OF A MELTING CYCLE = time to heat the water to steam + approx. 30 minutes (depending on the condition of the comb material).
The steam wax melter consists of:
- Square container with feet and lid,
- Inner perforated basket,
- Wax collection pan,
- Immersion-tube heating element 3 kW / 230 V with temperature controller 30–110 °C and dry-run protection.
The collection pan has a wax drain and a water refill/outlet pipe, which can be closed with a blanking plug when disinfecting.
As optional equipment we can offer wheels with brakes, which can be mounted in the pre-cut grooves in the legs.
MELTING OLD COMBS AND CAPPING WAX:
Before melting old combs, fill the water (approx. 10–12 l) through the refill pipe. Place the combs in the perforated basket, cover the container with the lid and switch on the heating element. The powerful thermostatic heating element is innovatively integrated in a recessed basin under the bottom of the steam melter, reducing the amount of water required and better protecting the heating coil against possible damage from low water levels. The heating element has a thermostat where you can set the temperature from 30–110 °C.
The water at the bottom of the melter heats to boiling. The steam produced is guided through a pipe in the center of the base into the perforated basket, causing the wax to melt and flow through the outlet into the collection vessel. Debris remains in the perforated basket.
Thanks to the steam outlet hose attached to the immersion heating element, the user receives an early warning when the water level is low. If the water falls below the level of the outlet pipe, steam begins to escape through the outlet pipe. Continue heating until the wax has completely drained. Then switch off the heating element, open the lid and remove the combs from the basket.
After the process the top-bars are largely free of wax; residues remain on the bottom-bars and must be cleaned. Remove the residues from the basket and, if required, place new combs in for another melting cycle.
DISINFECTING BEEKEEPING TOOLS:
The outer container of the wax melter can also be used to disinfect beekeeping tools, equipment and frames. Remove the perforated basket and the wax collection pan from the container. Close the wax drain and the water refill pipe with blanking plugs. Fill approx. 120 l of water, add an appropriate amount of lye (e.g. caustic soda) and switch on the electric heater. Heating increases the effectiveness of the lye solution. After completion the lye solution can be drained via a ball valve.
Optional accessories:
- Art. M60210 – wheels for feet with brakes
- Art. 3290 – wax-cleaning fleece 2.6 m²
- Art. 3361 – 3.5 l stainless steel wax container
